Dana Schutz

Dana Schutz (1976-) est une artiste américaine avec une solide formation en arts visuels. Elle a participé au programme d'artiste en résidence Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, puis a gradué du Cleveland Institute of Art puis finalement avec une maîtrise de la Columbia University.

On retrouve ses œuvres dans plusieurs musées en Amérique du Nord et en l'Europe. Elle est également représentée à la Saatchi Gallery et a exposé à la Friedrich Petzel Gallery à New York et au Contemporary Fine Arts de Berlin.

Voici comment elle décrit son travail :

«My paintings are loosely based on metanarratives. The pictures float in and out of pictorial genres. Still lifes become personified, portraits become events and landscapes become constructions. I embrace the area between which the subject is composed and decomposing, formed and formless, inanimate and alive. Recently I have been making paintings of sculptural goddesses, transitory still lifes, people who make things, people who are made and people who have the ability to eat themselves. Although the paintings themselves are not specifically narrative, I often invent imaginative systems and situations to generate information. These situations usually delineate a site where making is a necessity, audiences potentially don’t exist, objects transcend their function and reality is malleable .’ Dana Schutz 2004» - Saatchi Gallery

Elle a remporté plusieurs prix dont, entre autres, la Columbia University Medal for Excellence en 2010 ainsi que l'American Academy of Arts and Letters Award (N-Y, 2007).
